GROUNDWORK for Architects

Websites For Architects

A clearer website, built around what you want your practice to be known for.

Groundwork helps independent architects clarify what makes their practice valuable, put it into words and build a digital presence around the clients they want to work with.

The website is the foundation.

The practice
has moved on.

The website hasn’t.

The work is stronger. Your thinking is clearer. Perhaps you are becoming known for something more specific.

But online, that can be difficult to see.

Groundwork brings the way the practice presents itself into line with the way it actually works.

THE REFERRAL JOURNEY

A recommendation
gets you considered.

The website helps you get chosen.

Most good projects start before someone visits your site.
A past client, collaborator or friend passes your name on.

The website is what happens next. It helps a potential client understand whether your experience is relevant, what you value and whether the practice feels right for their project.

01

REFERRAL

Someone puts your name forward.

02

WEBSITE

They decide whether the practice feels relevant.

03

CONVERSATION

They arrive with more confidence and context.

Your reputation opens the door.

The website helps the conversation continue.

THE VALUE BEHIND THE PROJECTS

Show the work

behind the work.

A portfolio shows what was built.

It rarely shows the difficult site you made sense of, the planning problem you unlocked, the budget you made work harder or the confidence you gave a client along the way.

Those things are often why someone chooses an architect.

The aim isn’t more enquiries.

It’s better beginnings with the right people.

GROUNDWORK IN PRACTICE

Turning the Tilt.archi hidden specialism

into a clearer practice offering.

TILT.archi is a small Antwerp architecture practice whose strongest commercial work was already hiding in plain sight: permits, regularisations and planning advice.

The problem wasn’t a lack of work. Every new enquiry simply began from zero, with Zeno explaining the same things manually.

We repositioned the practice around the work he was already known for, moved permits and regularisations to the front, and built the website to help people recognise their problem before they got in touch.

SEE THE TILT.ARCHI PROJECT ↗

The site now works less like a portfolio and more like a first conversation: clearer services, better-qualified enquiries and a more useful route into the practice.

01

Lead with the problem

Visitors recognise their situation before they need to understand the technical service.

02

Make the specialism visible

Permits and regularisations move from hidden expertise to the front of the practice.

03

Qualify before your call

Most routes lead towards a paid screening, so the first conversation starts further forward.

PROCESS

From direction

to launch.

01

Direction

Clarify what the practice should be known for and who the site needs to speak to.

02

Story

Shape the language, structure, projects and evidence that make that clear.

03

Presence

Develop the visual direction and website, with a clear foundation for LinkedIn, Instagram and future content.

BEYOND THE WEBSITE

A clearer presence wherever the practice shows up.

The website is the centre, but it isn’t the only place someone encounters your practice.

The same thinking can shape how projects are introduced, what you talk about on LinkedIn, how the practice appears on Instagram and what you send when someone asks to see more.

01

LinkedIn

Expertise, point of view and useful thinking.

02

Instagram

Projects, process and the character of the practice.

03

Practice content

Case studies, credentials and stories worth sharing.

WHAT CHANGES

Clearer for the
clients you want.

Lighter for you.

The aim isn’t a busier inbox. It’s a clearer reason to choose you, a better first conversation and less time explaining the same things from scratch.

01

A clearer reason to choose you

Show the judgement, relevance and experience behind the work, not only its appearance.

02

Better-prepared enquiries

Help suitable clients understand what you do and whether their project is likely to fit before they get in touch.

03

Less explaining from scratch

Give the common questions and important distinctions a considered place to live, so the first conversation begins further forward.

04

A website you are glad to share

Bring the presence of the practice into line with its quality, character and direction.

ONE PERSON, ALL THE WAY THROUGH

The person who understands

the practice makes the site.

I’m Ben Jeffery, an independent creative director and designer. I work one-to-one with small practices to understand what is already good about them, make it easier for other people to see and build a clear expression of where they are going next.

I handle the strategy, writing, design and build myself, so nothing important gets lost between disciplines or handovers.

LETS TALK

If the practice is clearer in

conversation than it is online,

that’s a good place to begin.

You don’t need a finished brief. Tell me a little about the practice, where you want it to go and what the current website isn’t helping you say.
